The Big South Conference essentially swapped Liberty for USC Upstate in all sports, which for men's soccer purposes weakened it further. The top four loaded up their non-conference schedules to give them some opportunities to rack up RPI bonuses and earn, perhaps, at-large bids.

High Point, under the direction of fourth-year head coach and 2017 Big South Coach of the Year EJ O’Keeffe, returns eight starters and 18 letterwinners from a squad that went 10-5-4 overall and 7-1-0 in league action last season. The Panthers, led by fifth-year senior forward Kieran Roberts of England (15 goals in 2017) and senior defender Rashid Tetteh of Ghana, will try to improve on their runner-up finish in the conference tournament.

Radford takes on all comers, hitting the road for its first five games. Its non-conference schedule is ranked 3rd in the country, with the Highlanders visiting a murderer's row of Old Dominion, VCU, Georgetown, James Madison, Coastal Carolina, West Virginia and Virginia and hosting Charlotte.

Campbell returns JJ Donnelly, who ranked 12th in Division I with 13 goals -- four of them game-winning scores. Donnelly started all 19 games and twice posted hat tricks in 2017. Presbyterian also plays a challenging non-conference slate, with an early four-game road trip to NC State, Wake Forest, Furman and Georgia State sure to test the Blue Hose.
