Much like the rest of the country, the Pac-12 Conference has not solved the Stanford problem. Stanford is 30-3-7 inside the Pac-12 since 2004 and head coach Jeremy Gunn has been named the conference Coach of the Year four years running. Several teams are waiting in the wings if the Cardinal unexpectedly falter.

Last week Stanford was selected No. 1 in the United Soccer Coaches national pre-season poll, so it's no surprise the Cardinal are an overwhelming favorite in the Pac-12 as well. Stanford is the 2nd school to win three consecutive NCAA Division I championships -- the Cardinal are currently riding a streak of 12 consecutive shutouts in the NCAA Tournament! Redshirt junior left back Tanner Beason is a two-time all-Pac-12 first teamer and College Cup first teamer, and despite his obvious contributions on defense has managed to add seven goals and five assists over his career.
Washington, No. 24 in the USC pre-season ranking, have made four NCAA Tournament appearances during head coach Jamie Clark’s seven-year tenure. The Huskies are looking to make their 3rd straight post-season appearance led by sophomore midfielder Blake Bodily, the 2017 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year (three goals, eight assists).
UCLA took a step back in 2017, missing the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 35 seasons. The Bruins return two All-Pac-12 team members in seniors Erik Holt (Hermann Trophy watch list) and Anderson Asiedu. California returns junior goalkeeper and Hermann Trophy candidate Drake Callender (79 saves, 1.22 goals-against average in 2017).
