Seattle (0-1-0)
The final score (2-4) looked bad, but Seattle showed well at New Mexico and deserved better than going from a #22 ranking to not receiving a single vote in the United Soccer Coaches poll. "I give New Mexico all the credit," said Coach Pete Fewing. "We scored two nice goals and created some good chances. I was pleased with our effort as we tried to come back, but we can’t allow four goals on the road and expect to win."
Air Force (1-1-0)
The Falcons are off to a good start on a four-game East Coast swing, winning at James Madison in double overtime after losing to Virginia Tech in a neutral-site match. Air Force continues its trip with matches at Navy and UMBC this weekend.
Grand Canyon (1-0-0)
The 'Lopes are still basking in the glory of an opening-night 2-1 victory over then-#12 Wisconsin before 6,648 fans, arguably the most significant victory in the athletic program's short Division I history. "I didn't expect you to have this good of a game," head coach Schellas Hyndman told his team after the win. "You proved to me that you're a team of good character and you'll fight for each other."
CSU Bakersfield (2-0-0)
The Roadrunners ambushed rising WCC power Pacific 3-0. Ryan Goldsmith has two goals for Bakersfield, which tries its luck vs. the Big West's Sac State and UC Davis this weekend.
UNLV (2-0-0)
The Rebels rolled in Utah Valley's weekend tournament, defeating Florida Atlantic 3-0 and Evansville 4-1. Marco Gonzalez tallied a hat trick vs. the Aces. "To score seven goals and only concede one, that's a pretty good weekend," said UNLV head coach Rich Ryerson. The Rebels now head to Oklahoma for road matches at Tulsa and Oral Roberts.
Utah Valley (2-0-0)
Austin Buxton, Zach Maas and Blake Frischknecht each scored twice as the Wolverines racked up 4-0 wins vs. Evansville and FAU. "It was a fantastic opening weekend on Clyde Field in front of our 12th Wolverines, but our focus has already shifted to two difficult opponents in UC Irvine and CSUN that we'll face this coming weekend in California," UVU head coach Greg Maas said.
Houston Baptist (1-0-1)
The stats don't necessarily ensure results, and the Huskies demonstrated that in spades in their own tournament. Friday, HBU didn't get its first shot on goal until the 90th minute and needed an overtime goal from Jordi Cobo to escape with a win over Siena. Sunday, Houston Baptist outshot Saint Francis (Pa.) 25-6 but needed Gianluca Natera's goal in the 84th minute to secure a draw.
