Coastal Carolina (1-1-0)
The Chanticleers were embarassed 4-0 by UCLA on opening night, and it felt like deja vu when Georgetown jumped out to a quick lead on Sunday. However, Yazeed Matthews scored in the 31st minute and assissted on Tsiki Ntsabeleng's double-overtime winner. CCU still fell from 18th to "receiving votes" in this week's United Soccer Coaches poll.
Appalachian State (2-0-0)
Freshman Camden Holbrook had quite a trip to Florida. He netted a hat trick, including the overtime game-winner, at Jacksonville and added a goal two days later in the Mountaineers' 2-0 victory at North Florida. "Another great team effort," head coach Jason O'Keefe said after the 2nd win. "We're pleased to get the shutout we missed on Friday. To score two more goals on top of the three from Friday is very pleasing. We need to get back to Boone, recover and turn our focus on VMI for the home opener."
Georgia Southern (1-0-1)
The Eagles used two goals from freshman Adam Davie to win 2-0 at A-10 contender VCU, and then rallied from a 2-0 deficit behind two goals from Javier Carbonell in the final 14 minutes of regulation to earn a draw at Old Dominion. "When you're down 2-0 with less than 15 minutes to go, you do anything just to get a foothold back in the match," head coach John Murphy said. "For us to come back and equalize, says a lot about our character."
