Columns in order:
Adjusted RPI's 2015-17 (conference rating at top),
2018 non-conf. average RPI's and SOS's based on 2017,
2018 pre-season poll rankings
Only one Patriot League team has improved its RPI each of the last two seasons: Loyola Maryland, the defending regular-season champions. But the Greyhounds were upset in the conference tournament last season by 6th-seeded Colgate, the eventual Patriot auto bid. Colgate has made the NCAA Tournament the last two seasons, while Boston U. earned the conference's last at-large bid in 2015.
Loyola earned all possible 1st-place votes in a pre-season poll of Patriot League head coaches and sports information directors. It's no wonder: the Greyhounds return everyone who scored a goal or earned an assist in 2017. Chase Vosvick was named the top freshman goalie in the country last season, and TopDrawerSoccer names him one of the top 10 net minders in Division I. The only disappointment is Loyola's non-conference schedule -- the 2nd weakest in the Patriot. They play William & Mary at home and follow that with a roadie at St. John's, but they will be otherwise untested.
Colgate plays the toughest schedule, making a trip out to the Mountain time zone to take on perennial Summit power Denver and WAC contender Air Force. The Red Raiders also host Albany, Hofstra and Vermont and visit Pitt and Syracuse of the ACC. Boston U. begins the season with 5 consecutive games vs. 2017 RPI top 60 teams (Rhode Island, at Boston College, UMass Lowell, UMass and at Dartmouth).
