UCLA (2-0-0)
The Bruins are out to prove last year was a fluke. They began by traveling all the way across the country to deliver a 4-0 verdict at Coastal Carolina, then came all the way back home to blank San Diego 2-0. Junior forward Mohammed Kamara of Liberia has three goals, including a highlight-reel chip shot in the season opener.
California (2-0-0)
The Bears are playing the worst non-conference schedule in the Pac-12, with just two games vs. teams with winning records in 2017 and/or RPI's in the top 100 and just one true road match. So we shouldn't be surprised with one-goal victories over Detroit Mercy and Incarnate Word. Both visitors actually had worse results (UDM lost 2-0, UIW lost 6-0) at Saint Mary's. Cal is now ranked #14 in the United Soccer Coaches poll while the Gaels aren't even receiving votes.
Washington (2-0-0)
Great start for the Huskies as they disposed of Maryland on opening day 2-0 and won on the road at New Mexico by the same score. "We have such a hard schedule on the road to begin, getting this home win was absolutely crucial," said Washington head Coach Jamie Clark. "On the east coast, Maryland is the toughest out there is: they never quit, they fight, they compete. They have really good players, so to beat them in our opener required a pretty complete performance."
Stanford (0-0-1)
The defending national champs dropped from #1 to #10 in the USC poll after the Cardinal couldn't break through in a scoreless draw vs. San José State. "We have to be really pleased with how positively we attacked the game our first time out," Stanford head coach Jeremy Gunn said. "All we were lacking was just that one goal to get the result. We can critique all the different parts of the game and we always do that whether we win, lose or tie, but I think tonight the positives far outweigh the negatives and we had a very good performance."
