Mid-American Conference Update

Akron (0-1-1)
The Zips outshot their opposition 28-13, but earned no victories vs. quality competition. David Egbo scored two goals in a season-opening 2-2 draw with Butler, but Egbo and the rest of the Zips were blanked in a 2-0 loss to NC State.

Western Michigan (1-1-0)
The Broncos defeated Loyola Chicago 2-0, but suffered a 1-0 upset at DePaul on Monday. "Very disappointing result today," said head coach Chad Wiseman. "We were not disciplined in our game plan and lacked leadership in key moments of the game. I give credit to DePaul for making a play when the time came about. They were a spirited, energetic team today."

West Virginia (1-1-0)
The Mountaineers spent the first weekend at College of Charleston's tournament, defeating the hosts 2-0 on Friday before falling 1-0 to UNCW on Sunday. "It was a good performance for our guys against a very good Charleston team in front of a massive crowd (1,781 fans)," WVU coach Marlon LeBlanc said Friday night. "We showed up tonight, and that was the difference. Eleven guys played hard, and for us to find two goals on the road and get a shutout in front of that big of a crowd and that good of a team was a positive."

SIUE (1-0-1)
SIUE junior Jorge Gonzalez headed home a cross from Greg Solawa in the 90th minute Tuesday to send the Cougars to a 1-0 win over UMKC in the regular season home opener at Korte Stadium. Gonzalez has scored two goals this season. "Everyone contributed," said SIUE head coach Mario Sanchez. "I think we played almost the entire group of guys on this hot, muggy night. I am really proud of the guys for sticking with it."
