Max Todd scored three goals as the Flames were the only team to win their two games in SMU's opening-weekend tournament. "I'm very pleased with the performance today," head coach Sean Phillips said after UIC's 3-0 win over Providence. "We had a tight turnaround after having found a way to get a result on Friday. There was still a lot of heat at 10 a.m. and we were facing a quality Big East opponent in Providence who was a great test for the guys. Our guys were up to the challenge."
Northern Kentucky (2-0-0)
The Norse began the season with a 3-2 road win at Bowling Green on Saturday, and returned home ro record a 3-2 victory over Canisius on Monday. Alex Willis scored three goals in the two wins. "We have proven both away from home and at home that we can beat very good sides," said NKU head coach Stu Riddle, "and we must continue this momentum next weekend in Pittsburgh (vs. Duquesne and Robert Morris)."
Oakland (1-0-1)
Napoleon Outlaw III scored a game-tying goal with 29 seconds left in regulation to help the Golden Grizzlies earn a draw with Western Illinois, and scored again in a wild 2nd half at Marshall that resulted in a 3-2 victory. Oakland spends this weekend in the city of Chicago as it is scheduled to play DePaul and Loyola.
