FIU (0-2-0)
The Panthers were the #20-ranked team in the country. This week, they are not even receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll. No one would begrudge FIU a loss at Duke, but can anyone explain a 3-0 loss to Elon in Durham? FIU started the game strong with four shots in the first 20 minutes of play, and held the Phoenix without a shot for the first 23 minutes of action. Elon, however, got on track and doubled up the Panthers in shots, 14-7, the rest of the way.
Old Dominion (1-0-1)
Max Wilschrey had all three ODU goals as the Monarchs defeated Radford and drew with Georgia Southern. Old Dominion continues its homestand with games vs. Santa Clara and Temple this weekend.
Kentucky (1-0-0)
The Wildcats won their 4th consecutive season opener in defeating DePaul 1-0. "I think it is a young team and there is nothing better than to have a lot of video of the team to learn from mistakes and still come away with the victory," said head coach Johan Cedergren.
Charlotte (1-0-0)
The 49ers had an impressive opening night, piling up 26 shots -- including 11 on goal -- in defeating FGCU 1-0. "I thought we played really, really well," head coach Kevin Langan said. "We were knocking on the door all night long and had some great individual performances. I thought that our compactness as a team from front to back was better than it had been in the exhibition games. We are starting to come together nicely. The most pleasing thing was that we kept going and going. Their goalkeeper made countless great saves. We had a lot of near misses but our mindset to keep going was fantastic."
