Cal State Fullerton (0-0-1)
Alex Juarez made a great cross from just inside midfield and Bass Sarr headed it in for the game-tying draw in the 87th minute, eventually earning the Titans a 1-1 draw at Missouri State. "I trust my teammates so as soon as I saw the ball I made the run and I knew if I jumped with full speed I would definitely get a flick on it and it would be a goal because I saw the keeper come off his line," said Sarr. The defending Big West champions return home to host James Madison and New Mexico.
UC Santa Barbara (2-0-0)
The Gauchos outscored their opposition 5-1 in opening-weekend home victories over St. John's and UC Riverside. Freshman Carter Clemmensen, who scored 114 goals in his high school career, logged a goal in each game. Head coach Tim Vom Steeg earned his 250th career victory vs. UCR. "It was nice to get 250 on a night like tonight," Vom Steeg said. "I enjoyed the way our team played tonight and I liked our effort, so it's very rewarding. It is an incredible challenge to take a new group of players every single year - which we end up having to do quite a bit here at UCSB - and make it work. But for me, I'm hoping this year will be not 250, but 270. Our goal is to rack up as many wins as we can and keep this thing going."
UC Davis (1-0-1)
The Aggies were outshot 33-13 in two games in the city of Omaha, but somehow emerged undefeated and unscored upon. Adam Mickelson scored Friday to lift Davis past Omaha, and Wallis Lapsley made nine saves in 200 minutes of play.
UC Irvine (1-0-1)
The Anteaters drew 0-0 at San Diego to begin the season, and then flew across the country to hand UCF a 1-0 defeat. Greg Patenaude made a penalty-kick save in the 100th minute to preserve the draw with USD, and Alvaro Quezada curled home the game-winner in the 94th minute in Orlando. "Alvaro has been playing confident since the season began, and clearly you can see the maturity he's gained from the offseason," noted his head coach Yossi Raz following the win. "He's a tough young man that's invested a lot of time into his craft and into getting better, and I'm happy for him his hard work paid off."
