Big East Conference Update

Butler (0-1-1)
Any good feelings gained in an opening-day draw with Akron were wiped out in a 2-1 loss in which visiting Drake, who won just six games a year ago, scored two goals in the final 10 minutes. "As disappointing as it is, we need to learn from this result," said Butler coach Paul Snape. "We lost too many battles tonight and we weren't good enough throughout, even in the first half when we managed to take a 1-0 lead. The better team won tonight."

Georgetown (1-1-0)
The Hoyas opened up with a road trip to the state of South Carolina, where they started out well with a 1-0 victory over the Gamecocks. Two days later, however, they lost 2-1 to a Coastal Carolina squad coming off of a 4-0 home loss to UCLA. Georgetown, ranked #13 pre-season, dropped out of the United Soccer Coaches poll released Tuesday.

Creighton (1-0-1)
The Bluejays move into the USC poll at #20 largely on the backs of a season-opening 2-0 victory over pre-season #11 Clemson. Creighton outshot the Tigers 11-2 in the 1st half, and ended the game with a 6-0 advantage in shots on frame.

Marquette (1-0-0)
The Golden Eagles defeated Valparaiso 3-1 in their season opener as freshman Lukas Sunesson of Sweden secured a brace in oppressive heat requiring a water break in each half.

Xavier (1-0-1)
Not sure what we know about the Musketeers after a 6-0 trouncing of NAIA-affiliated Cincinnati Christian and a 0-0 draw at Northwestern. Xavier did dominate possession in Evanston, outshooting the Wildcats 22-3 and earning 10 corner kicks.

Villanova (2-0-0)
The Wildcats entered a challenging three-game stretch with a 3-2 victory over highly-regarded William & Mary. Villanova follows up with a match vs. Loyola Maryland, travels to Clemson and then to Chester for a neutral-site meetup with Penn State.
