Fordham (1-0-0)
The 15th-ranked Rams got off to a good start with a 2-1 victory at Holy Cross. "Our guys put in a lot of work tonight against a good Holy Cross team," said head coach Jim McElderry after the game. "It's only our first match, but good personality showed through tonight." Fordham plays its first six games of the season away from home, finally hosting Columbia on 9/21.
VCU (1-1-0)
The Rams lost 2-0 to Georgia Southern before exploding for three 2nd-half goals in a 3-0 defeat of Radford. "I was proud of the guys tonight for bouncing back with a more intelligent performance than Friday," said head coach David Giffard after the Radford win. "With such a young team, we have so many things to learn about how to win college soccer games playing the way we believe in playing. On Friday we had 600 passes but didn't create enough good chances and gave the other team good chances out of nothing. Tonight, we came back and gave away very little and eventually found ways to get goals."
Massachusetts (0-1-1)
A loss at UMass Lowell is understandable. A draw at Sacred Heart is not for a team of Massachusetts' caliber. The Minutemen almost lost in Fairfield, Conn. -- DeAndrae Brown scored his first goal as a member of the team in the 86th minute to force overtime. Brown's draw-securing goal was the only UMass shot on target after halftime.
George Washington (2-0-0)
The Colonials defeated Stony Brook 3-2 and took American to the woodshed, 6-0. Sophomore Oscar Haynes Brown has seven goals, one assist and two hat tricks for GW.
Rhode Island (2-0-0)
Anyone ever notice there are three Rams squads in the A-10? This Ram eleven has six road goals and none allowed through two games. Dominik Richter and Stavros Zarokostas have two goals apiece for Rhode Island while freshman Roger Penske has stopped seven shots on goal.
