New Hampshire (1-1-0)
The Wildcats took Virginia to the brink, before the Cavaliers broke through with 21 seconds left. New Hampshire came home and defeated Fairfield in a rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament 1st-round match -- also won by UNH. The Wildcats have a relatively easy four-game stretch before visiting Ivy League power Dartmouth on 9/15.
UMass Lowell (1-0-1)
The River Hawks defeated A10 contender UMass 1-0 to open the season, but had to settle for a draw at Quinnipiac despite managing 25 shots. "I thought we were unfortunate to not come out with three points today," remarked head Coach Christian Figueroa. "We saw a lot of positives in today's game and created very good opportunities. Now we have to take the next step and put a full 90 minutes together."
Albany (N.Y.) (1-1-0)
The Great Danes do not have a hefty schedule, so games at NCAA Tournament teams are extra important. Albany lost 2-1 at Colgate, giving up the game-tying goal in the 89th minute and the game-winning goal in the 99th. "It's always gut-wrenching to lose in overtime and especially after giving up the late goal - but that's part of the highs and lows of a season, said head coach Trevor Gorman. "I do think we continued to grow and make progress tonight against a very good Colgate team that was in the Sweet Sixteen last year. We'll keep learning as we prepare for Harvard on Friday night."
UMBC (2-0-0)
The Retrievers drew their 3rd-largest crowd ever for Monday's matchup with Rutgers, and the fans were not disappointed. UMBC twice rallied from deficits as sophomore Cesare Marconi netted two goals, including the game winner in the 72nd minute.
Vermont (1-1-0)
The Catamounts held their own at Duke's John Rennie Invitational, defeating Elon 2-0 and forcing overtime with the Blue Devils before succumbing. "A difficult result to swallow when we battled back twice to equalize in the match," said head coach Rob Dow. "Ultimately this weekend's games were a very good test for our team on the road and we'll head back to Burlington to tweak some things we will see on film."
